How to uninstall /Remove Windows 10 Technical Preview from Windows Update

Windows 10  is set to launch on October 1th and many PC, tablet and laptop users have already installed the Consumer Technical Preview. But Windows 10 is a big change from Windows 7 and close to windows 8 with visible differences.

What happens if you've installed Windows 10, but want to go back to Windows 7 or 8, (we're assuming no-one is keen on returning to Vista)? Here we explain your options if you wish to uninstall Windows 10.

Before we start it is worth pointing out that Microsoft makes it very clear that rolling back a Windows 10 installation is not a simple task. The upgrade to Windows 10 is made fantastically easy.

On the download page for the  Windows 10 Technical Preview Microsoft says: "If you want to stop using Windows Technical Preview and return to your previous version of Windows, you'll need to reinstall your previous version from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC—typically a DVD. If you don't have recovery media, you might be able to create recovery media from a recovery partition on your PC using software provided by your PC manufacturer. You'll need to do this before you upgrade. After you install Windows Technical Preview, you won’t be able to use the recovery partition on your PC to go back to your previous version of Windows"

If you’ve upgraded your Windows 7 or windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10, then you can uninstall the preview updates using Windows Updates. Just navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features then click on View Installed Updates . You have to find the Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2990214) and uninstall it.
